When you think of Welsh English, you probably think of a gentle, singing accent. But the differences go much deeper than pronunciation. Just as the Welsh language (Cymraeg) has a unique history and structure, so does the English spoken there.


The Welsh Language: A Separate Tongue 🗣️

The most important thing to know about Welsh English is that it is a distinct dialect because of the influence of the Welsh language, which is also spoken in Wales. Welsh (or Cymraeg) is a Celtic language that is totally different from English. It is not an old version of English, but a separate, living language with its own grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation rules.
