Welcome to the Friday Fix!

👉 Each Friday, we break down a real-world professional problem and replace “textbook” phrases with the authentic, native-level language that actually gets results.

The Situation

You’re leading a weekly project sync on Zoom with 8 team members. You’ve just finished explaining a major change to the project roadmap. You ask, “Does anyone have any thoughts or questions?”

Silence.

Mics stay muted. Cameras are on, but everyone is looking down at their keyboards. You need feedback to move forward, but you don’t want to sound like a school teacher “picking on” students.

Your Task

How do you break the silence? Write a 3–4 sentence response that acknowledges the quiet, validates the complexity of the topic, and asks a specific person for their input without making them feel uncomfortable.

Try it yourself before scrolling down!

Key Phrases

  • “I know this is a lot of information to digest...”

  • “I’d love to get [Name]’s perspective on this, specifically regarding...”

  • “What’s your take on the [specific part]?”

  • “Are there any ‘red flags’ that stand out to you?”

👇 Ready to see how a professional would handle this? The model answer, a breakdown of why these specific phrases work, and the 3 mistakes most ESL speakers make are below. 🔒
