This week, we’ve been looking at something every English speaker—native or otherwise—does all the time: checking for understanding.
In a real conversation, things don’t always go smoothly.
You might use a word the other person doesn’t know, or maybe you don’t fully grasp their point.
Instead of just saying, “I don’t understand,” which can feel a bit abrupt, native speakers use a variety of smooth phrases, phrasal verbs, and idioms to get the message across.
