If you want one piece of grammar that makes you instantly more persuasive in English, it is the conditional.

Conditionals are “if” sentences, and they are the natural language of persuasion because they let you show someone a consequence.

  • You are not just stating a fact.

  • You are painting a picture of what happens next, and that picture is what moves people to act.

This week, we focus on the two conditionals you will use most in professional life: the first and the second.
