Defining the Proof of Concept (PoC)

Before a company spends millions of dollars on a big idea, they need to know if the idea can actually work. A Proof of Concept (PoC) is a small-scale exercise used to verify that a particular method or product is feasible. It is the very first step in the “birthing process” of an innovation.

Oxford Definition: Evidence that shows that a business proposal, design idea, etc. will work, usually based on an experiment or a pilot project.

Usage Example: “This project acted as a proof of concept for the electronic filing approach.”

Professional Alternatives

In a corporate environment, you can use these interchangeable expressions to describe a PoC:
